David is an award winning national and internationally acclaimed watercolor artist....one of the world’s top professional watercolor painters working today. Curtain and lights up! LIVE at the Shore Cultural Centre—your children!! Shore is offering two one-week classes on the exciting world of the Performing Arts. They will take place at Shore July 10-14 and July 17-21, from 9:00am-12:00noon. Students will learn about and participate in activities relating to Acting/Drama, Communicating with Music, Story Telling and Performing in front an audience. Students can try out playing the piano and guitar, writing a short story and performing a variety of stage movements and techniques. Each week will conclude with a short performance by the students for family and friends.
Kiddie City preschool students had the outstanding opportunity to participate in an artist in residence project over the past 16 weeks, thanks to a grant received from Cuyahoga County Arts and Culture. Hassan Rodgers, artist and story teller led the students in the creation and performance of "Folktales are more than a Story". In this experience the students learned various yoga movements and postures, beginning acting skills, and art concepts. Some of the students also made homemade musical instruments from recyclable food containers. Hassan put them to good use by having the children play them during a music activity. He separated the children into sections by types of instruments and taught them about percussion and strings. The students also participated in healthy cooking activites that related to the folktales that they created.
Annie Get Your Gun scored a bulls eye when it returned to Broadway in 1999, starring Bernadette Peters and sporting a revised libretto by Tony, Oscar and Emmy winner Peter Stone. As Newsday reported, Stone's revisions 'are sweetly ingenious, and the show is a dream.' Stone reshaped the 1946 book to create a Wild West show-within-a-show that frames the ageless 'Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better' love story of sharpshooters Annie Oakley and Frank Butler. Stone has added a secondary romance between the younger sister of Frank's bothersome assistant Dolly, and a boy who is (to Dolly's horror) part Native American. 'The book has been updated in ways that pass p.c. muster,' reported Time Magazine, 'without losing all the fun.' Joined to the new book, of course, is that amazing Irving Berlin score, featuring hit after hit after hit. 'Irving Berlin's greatest achievement in the theater,' wrote the New York Post, ANNIE GET YOUR GUN 'will always be a musical for the ages, one of the Broadway theater's enduring triumphs.'

The Euclid Art Association presented awards at the 2017 Spring Art Show reception on the evening of May 17 at the Euclid Public Library. Members and guests filled the exhibit area, enjoying refreshments while viewing more than 150 works of art by members. The annual show was open to the public for one week during library hours.
Meet the winner of the 2017 Euclid Art Association Margret E. Hain Memorial Art Scholarship − Euclid High School Senior, Jermaine Hawkins. Senior Awards Night at Euclid High School was Thursday evening May 11. Ellen Howard presented the EAA Scholarship award to Jermaine. This year EAA developed a new procedure for selecting the scholarship winner. EHS Senior art students were asked to submit their entries, maximum 3, to info@euclidart.com along with a short artist statement. We had six entries to review. The selection committee, Rozenia Cunningham and Ellen Howard, both agreed on Jermaine as the clear cut winner.
The front of Shore Cultural Centre transforms into an assemblage of food and craft booths on Friday, June 2, with opening day of the Euclid Farmers’ Market. The market will run from 3:00-6:30pm every Friday until October 2. A variety of vendors will be present selling fresh produce, baked goods and handmade crafts. Anything sold at the market must have been grown or fabricated in Ohio.
The Euclid Art Association's Spring Fine Art Show opens on May 13 at the Euclid Public Library, featuring well over a hundred works by local artists in a variety of media. The organization has members from all over Northeast Ohio and as far away as New Jersey.

The Theatre Program at Shore Cultural Centre, under the direction of Terrence Spivey, is offering a master class entitled “The World of August Wilson” on Saturday, June 10 from 10:00am – 1:00pm on the stage of Shore Auditorium. This intense study of the acclaimed American playwright (Fences, The Piano Lesson) will be led by Mark Clayton Southers, former artistic director of the August Wilson Center and Founder and Producing Director of Pittsburgh Playwrights Theatre Co. Southers, who knew Wilson personally, is considered an expert source on August Wilson and his work. Wilson passed away at the age of 56 in 2005.
B-Elite Modeling & Charm School recognizes the need for a program that builds self esteem in our youth as well as re-introduces etiquette. In today's world, one must be able to walk into a room and command attention. Whether it be in a board room, a courtroom or in a classroom, everyone needs confidence to do so. At the tender age of 10, my mother enrolled me in modeling and charm classes to combat my shyness. I am grateful that she recognized the need for me to participate in such a unique program that helped boost my self esteem. To date I have been an Educator, Youth Advocate, Radio Talk Show Host, MC, Runway Model etc. I believe that without my mother enroling me into that program, none of this would have been possible! B-Elite Modeling & Charm School will host a 10 week summer youth program at The Shore Cultural Center. Children, teens and adults will learn basic skills and techniques in runway modeling while building self esteem, self confidence and self awareness. Classes will be held every Monday from 5-6:30 PM beginning June 5th. The 10 week program will end the week of August 13th (Date TBD) with a Fashion Show Graduation. Each participant will highlight the skills and techniques that they've learned and each will recieve a certificate of completition. We recognize the need for programming geared toward the “forgotten” youth, middle school and high school students. The Shore Cultural Centre's Summer class program would like to give all serious storytellers and writers the chance to become the next bestselling author! Shore will be offering a series of Beginning Novel Writing classes beginning May 2 and continuing through September 19. The class will be taught through three separate classes.
As we enter our sixth year of M4M concerts, we’re feeling called to expand the horizons, and travel further into the many-splendored world of “classical” music – without losing sight of the favorites that brought us here in the first place.
The March 6, 2017, meeting of the Euclid Art Association featured the artistry of Tricia Kaman, a well known Cleveland artist, demonstrating The Pastel Portrait. She is especially known for her oil and pastel portraits, although she also loves doing the occasional landscape, still life or floral. Her art has been exhibited nationally and internationally and has garnered numerous awards. We thank Tricia for a mesmerizing evening of art. There were 36 members and seven guests in attendance, who sat so quietly at times that you could have heard a pin drop! We also thank her assistant, Riki, for coming early to set up all the gear and for being an excellent model for Tricia’s pastel portrait.

At our February 6, 2017 meeting we featured something special....a tag team watercolor demonstration by two of Ohio’s premiere watercolor artists, Cathy Welner and Bob Moyer. These well known and very popular artists attracted a large number of people to our meeting and the good weather helped, too. For the middle of winter, the forces of the elements graced us with a sunny, warm day and most of the snow melted! We had 18 guests and 24 members in attendance....three guests became members! We thank both Cathy and Bob for a fun evening of art.
North Collinwood’s UpStage Players, one of Northeast Ohio’s hardest working children’s theatre companies, celebrates its 23rd season in 2017 with the beloved theatre show Fiddler on the Roof Jr.Tickets to all three performances of this Broadway-style musical can now be purchased online. Known for its no-cut policy, UpStage Players “works for the kids” of Greater Cleveland.
The arts will take center stage this month at Shore Cultural Centre beginning with a Community Engagement Panel on the Arts with Terrence Spivey, hosted by WEWS Channel 5 anchor Leon Bibb, which will take place on Wednesday, March 15th at 7:00pm. Then, on Saturday, March 25th a readers theater performance directed by Terrence Spivey, new Artistic Associate at Shore, of August Wilson’s autobiographical one person play How I Learned What I Learned, presented by special arrangement with SAMUEL FRENCH, INC., will grace the Shore stage.
It seemed as though every hall and empty room and space inside the Shore Cultural Centre was filled Saturday, February 25, with the foot tappin’ sounds of folk music during the 2nd Annual Lake Erie Folk Festival. Folk and traditional music lovers from Northeast Ohio (and far away as Missouri and Minnesota), enjoyed and took part in a variety of events throughout the day and night. Exact numbers are not yet known but an estimated 1,000 people attended the free afternoon events and the evening concert in the Shore auditorium. The festival was produced by the Shore Cultural Centre and the Northeast Ohio Heritage Music Association(NEOHMA).
At our Euclid Art Association meeting on Monday, January 9, 2017, we featured members, Gerry Shamray, Dan Driscoll, and Eddie Mitchell, plus EAA workshop previews by Launie McDevitt and Lee Peters. On this very cold January evening, 34 members and one guest, came out to hear Gerry, Dan and Eddie talk to us about their artwork. That’s a very nice show of support from our membership when you consider this was the very same evening as the big college football game! But then again, the January meeting is always one of our favorites and as we heard someone say....“the best meeting ever.” “Northeast Ohio really is teeming with talent!”....another nice comment.
Shore Cultural Centre is pleased to announce that Terrence Spivey will be joining Shore as Artistic Associate in theatre programming. “I am excited to be a part of Shore and their team in enhancing the Shore’s standing as an arts organization in Cleveland,” said Spivey.
The halls, classrooms and auditorium of the Shore Cultural Centre will resonate with folk music on Saturday, February 25 from 1:00pm-10:00pm. The 2nd Annual Lake Erie Folk Festival (LEFF) will take place throughout the Shore on that day rich with FREE workshops, jam sessions, dancing, demonstrations, mini-concerts and activities for young people from 1:00pm-6:00pm. Then that evening at 7:30pm, the auditorium will come alive with the eclectic music of a headliner-day-ending-concert for only $10! Featured that night on the Shore stage will be Cleveland blues artist Austin Walkin’ Cane, Akron folk/rock group Shivering Timbers, Ohio resident and former contestant on The Voice Emily Keener and the indigenous music of the Tuvan throat singers Alash.

Shore Cultural Centre is excited to once again partner with the Northeast Ohio Heritage Music Association (NEOHMA) to present the Lake Erie Folk Festival (LEFF) on Saturday, February 25th. The eclectic music festival received enthusiastic reviews after its conception in 2016, and welcomed many Euclid residents and music lovers from surrounding communities.
A great time was had by all at our 2016 Annual Euclid Art Association Christmas Party, Potluck Dinner and Chinese Auction Fundraiser.....the year, held at the Henn Mansion in Euclid on Monday, December 5. What a beautiful venue to hold our party. It was nicely decorated for the holidays. We had 61 members and guests in attendance....all enjoying an evening of fun with friends, fantastic food and huge auction.
If you think the Euclid Holiday Celebration and Euclid Symphony Orchestra’s Christmas concert completed the Holiday lineup at the Shore Cultural Centre, then look again. This month Shore is bringing back for the second year, the classic Christmas comedy "The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” written by Barbara Robinson and directed by Darryl Lewis.
Chef Dan Esquivel, Director of the Culinary Institute at the Shore Cultural Centre, has announced a series of monthly classes to be offered to the public. Esquivel teaches culinary arts to high school students from Euclid, Mentor, Wickliffe and Willoughby. “I love teaching the students I have”, said Chef Dan, “but I also enjoy teaching the adult members of our community and their younger children. It gives me a chance to stretch out a bit.”

What an amazing start to our new season on Monday, September 12, 2016. We had record breaking attendance − 44 members, plus 4 guests (two joined EAA) − to see our member’s demonstration by Dottie Geisert. We thank Dottie for her presentation, “The Portrait, how I see it. The approach, techniques & media.” In college, Dottie majored in Portraiture and you can tell that this is still one of her most favorite subjects to talk about.
Silhouette Productions 2016 Musical at the Shore Cultural Centre is "The Music Man"
Silhouette Productions "The Music Man" arrives with a flourish at Shore Cultural Centre this month. This family friendly musical is about a fast-talking traveling salesman, Harold Hill, as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys' band that he vows to organize – this, despite the fact that he doesn't know a trombone from a treble clef. His plans to skip town with the cash are foiled when he falls for Marian, the librarian, who transforms him into a respectable citizen by curtain's fall. This description is from Musical Theatre International, from whom special permission is granted to produce the show.
Lance King, who will be playing Olin Brit in the production, is looking forward to how this talented cast will present this very iconic show. He stated, “Audiences can look forward to an enjoyable show filled with music and laughter provided by the characters that live up to the creed "Iowa Stubborn". Harold Hill (Steven Schuerger) leads the audience and the River City townspeople down the path of gullibility straight to joy and of course love!" He goes on to say, "Silhouette Productions is a fantastic group that works tirelessly to provide quality performances that will entertain and delight."

AUDITION NOTICE: Shore Cultural Center is pleased to announce an encore presentation of the holiday classic The Best Christmas Pageant Ever to the Grand Theater at Shore Cultural Center this holiday season. The play is produced with permission from Samuel French, written by Barbara Robinson, and presented by the Shore Cultural Center as part of their holiday season events. Veteran actor/director Darryl Lewis states, “I love this play. It is one of the funniest scripts I have ever read and the cast really had a wonderful time putting smiles on the faces of the audience last season. I’m delighted to have an opportunity to welcome another holiday season with this production.” In this hilarious classic, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the most inventively awful kids in history. Join the mayhem – and the fun – when the Herdman kids collide head-on with the Christmas story! If you’ve never participated in a Christmas Show, there is no better way to spend time connecting with new friends and family. No babysitter required because entire families are encouraged to participate together.

The auditions will consist of cold readings from the script and singing a Christmas carol. Scripts will be available prior to the audition at the audition site with prior arrangement. Performance Dates: December 9, 10 & 11. Rehearsal will be a couple evenings per week and Saturday afternoons starting November 1. There is a wide range of roles for available for adults and youth.
