YMCA Older Adult Senior Spotlight – Dorothy Ferguson

This month’s Senior Spotlight shines on a Euclid woman whose positive attitude and hard work has made a difference in her quality of life.  Dorothy Ferguson, 71,  has Lupus, a disease that causes fatigue, muscular pain and immunity issues.  However, since Dorothy began her wellness journey at the Euclid YMCA back in 2014 and has added a regular regimen of exercise to her healthy routine, she and her doctors are pleased with the results.

YMCA Offering Programs and Classes at the Euclid Senior Center

Euclid, Ohio - In May, the Euclid Family YMCA moved its Active Older Adult programming to the Euclid Senior Center. The programs were moved successfully thanks to support and cooperation from the City of Euclid staff members Mac Stephens, recreation director and Bob Payne, Manager of the Euclid Senior Center. Active older adult programming was moved to the senior center after the YMCA made a difficult decision to close the Euclid Family YMCA facility, located at 631 Babbitt Road facility in May 2018.

Swim Lessons

Our swim lessons include 5 components; personal growth, personal safety, rescue skills, stroke development, fun and games that helps kids of all ages develop confidence in, and out of the water. Swimmer are grouped by age and ability, and our instructors ensure each swimmer has an overall positive experience and gains skills that will help him/her succedd in the pool and beyond.

Self Defense Seminars at the Y!

The goal is to address the student’s fears from any attacks they have concerns about, or ways they have been attacked previously whether the attack was from a male or female.  The instructor will be open to answering questions and teaching techniques based on the class fears. This will be a hands-on course for participants who are willing to drill techniques.  No one has to participate in the hands-on portion who has an injury or simply want to observe although they're subject to the same pricing.

Swim Starters New Pricing

Starting now our Swim Starter classes for ages 6 months to 36 month have new pricing. Classes range from freeto $10. Accompanied by a parent, infants and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence-building experiences, while parents learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. 1st Annual Turkey Bowl

Join us for some family holiday fun on November 18th at the Euclid Family YMCA for our first annual flag football turkey bowl. Team registration is $30 and you must have a minimum of 7 players and maximum of 10 players on your team. Teams provide their own uniforms and must be the same color. Players must be 18 or over. This will be a single elimination tournament. Registration deadline is November 11th, so please register as soon as possible. We collaborated with the HELP foundation to host a Halloween Dance for their residents. The HELP Foundation empowers individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities through residential, day support, vocational, and summer education programs to choose services and opportunities as respected and valued members of the community. Health Day at the YMCA

October is chronic disease prevention month. The best way to avoid chronic disease is to stay healthy, and this month is all about becoming your best self.
