Euclid SilverSneaker Spotlight

Josephine Smith, 86, of Euclid is this month’s Senior Spotlight.  Josephine began her wellness journey with the YMCA and the SilverSneakers program back in 2007 at the request of her doctor, who recommended she increase her level physical activity to help keep her diabetes at bay.

In addition, she began having issues with her knees. After joining the Euclid YMCA, Josephine found her way to the pool where she became a regular participant of water aerobics. She claims that the aquatics classes and swimming helped to control diabetes at and reduce the pain in her knees. Overtime she added group exercise like senior cycling class, yoga and SilverSneakers Classic to her weekly workout regimen, siting the improvement in her ability to move more freely and maintain a positive attitude.

This was evident, as Josephine always has positive words to share accompanied by an ever-present beautiful smile.  “Still no cane, no walker and that’s a blessing”, states Josephine, who has staved off knee replacements to this day.  She continues to join her friends weekly at the Euclid Senior Center to stay active by participating SilverSneakers and Chair Yoga. Come join Josephine and the 1000+ people who take classes each month at the Euclid Senior Center and learn how you can keep your body, mind and spirit happy.
