A Message from Mayor Bill Cervenik

Spring is here and with Summer not far behind, the City of Euclid will be filled with many events and programs for all to enjoy.  The Memorial Day Parade kicks off at 10:00 am on Monday, May 28th starting at East 228th St. and Lakeshore Blvd. and travels to the Veteran's Monument on East 222nd St. where a service is held to honor our Veterans who sacrificed their lives so that the United States and other countries could enjoy freedom.

The fourth annual Relay for Life event takes place on Saturday, June 9th at noon and runs through 10:00 am Sunday at Euclid High School Stadium.  This event raises funds for the American Cancer Society, and last year the Euclid event raised nearly $60,000. It is not too late to form a team and actively participate in the event.  Teams camp out overnight at the stadium, and members from each team walk the track continuously throughout the event. We encourage all residents to stop by and support the team members and donate a few dollars on the various fundraising events that participants conduct, such as baked good, raffles, gift baskets, food sales and much more.

City pools open on June 11th with plenty of open swim times, but also numerous lessons and activities for all ages, including adult lap swim and early bird swimming, youth water polo lessons, and competitive swimming by our Summer Panther Swim Team. For more information on these and other programs, please call the Recreation Department at 216-289-8114.

Two new endeavors, recently approved by City Council in the 2012 Capital Budget are the installation of new basketball courts in Memorial Park, and a Splash Park at the site of Indian Hills Pool. If all goes well, these projects will be constructed and in use before the end of the summer season.  There will be a Petting Zoo at the CE Orr Ice arena on June 9th from noon until 5:00 pm featuring Wild Life Wendy and Jungle Larry and all of their exotic animals.

Make sure you take a walk at Sims Park and enjoy the new trails recently completed. The New Fishing Pier, experiencing a slight delay in the permitting process, is still expected to be under construction in late June or early July. The Pier and trails are just the beginning of the development of our Lakefront.

Throw in the baseball and soccer leagues games, Panther hoops and so many other activities offered in the City of Euclid which are too numerous to list due to space restrictions, and we are all looking fun for a safe and exciting Summer season.

As always, please feel free to contact me at 216-289-2751 or stop by City Hall and visit personally. And always, God Bless and enjoy what has been given us.
