Ss. Robert and William Catholic School Starts a New Year with 540 Students

The leadership team of SRW School is pleased to announce and welcome 540 students for the 2014-2015 school year.  This team consisting of Fr. Sal Ruggeri, Pastor St. John of the Cross, Fr. John Betters, Pastor Ss. Robert and William, Mrs. Martha Dodd, Principal for Student Success, and Ms. Meg Cosgriff, Executive Principal, has worked hard to ensure a smooth start. The goal of this team was to create unity and a smooth transition for a successful academic year. This seems to have been accomplished as 187 new students (128 from SJOC and 56 students from other schools) have united to create this large and harmonious school body.  To assist with this growth, eleven new teachers and staff have also been added, 10 of whom were formerly employed from St. John of the Cross.

Prior to the start of the school year, teachers spent time in Professional Development which also included a one day retreat for the purpose of learning the importance of being a disciple and modeling the expectations they have for their students.  The teacher retreat was led by Mary Lou Beers and directly relates to the theme of the year. “We are one Body in Christ.”

On a related note, a Unity Retreat was held for the entire student body on Thursday, August 28th.  This retreat allowed students, faculty and staff to get to know one another through various group exercises and gave each student an awareness of how important each one is to the success of the partnership.  Ms. Meg Cosgriff reflects, “The leadership team felt it was very important to start on a spiritual note.  We exist for the purpose of spreading the Gospel, setting aside a day to reflect on our discipleship and how each one of us is essential to the mission.” Mrs. Martha Dodd agrees, “This partnership holds great possibilities to create something very unique and special for the students of SRW School as well as the entire Euclid community.”  Fr. Sal Ruggeri worked with students to identify and share the gifts they will bring to the community, Fr. John Betters and Ms. Meg Cosgriff used technology to showcase the students as part of one community and one body of Christ, Mrs. Martha Dodd eased first day jitters by addressing that they exist and assured students that they were not alone in their feelings, and finally, Fr. Scott Goodfellow and Euclid LIfeTeen Youth Minister, Mr. Chris Kelley, challenged students to physical team building activities.  Due to this preparation over the summer months, this new partnership got off to a great start with hopes of a hugely successful academic year.
