Dancing Geometry

A dancing geometry students leaves the ground as he creates a new angle in mid-air.

"Acute, right angle, obtuse." Loud little voices of the fourth and fifth graders at Arbor Elementary School could be heard across East 200th Street as they performed their dancing geometry routine.

Each class that got to spend time with Mr. Tom Evert had the opportunity to create their own dance using geometry. Students not only learned modern dancing techinques, they learned how their bodies make shapes, angles, and movements come to life.

Assistant Principal, Mrs. Bridget Simenc brought this program to Arbor for the first time this year. Mr. Evert and Mrs. Simenc worked to establish a grant from VSA Ohio who funded this unique program. The objective was to help our students learn geometry in a way that they would never forget.

Tom Evert is on the roster of teaching artists with Young Audiences of Northeast Ohio.
