Euclid Graduate Receives Full Scholarship to Ivy League School

Deionte Appling, a 2012 graduate of Euclid High School, will attend Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island free of charge. Brown recruited Deionte to become part of their incoming freshmen class due to his academic and extra-curricular successes. Deionte graduated with a 4.209 cumulative grade point average, ranking third in Euclid High School's senior class. He participated in multiple Advanced Placement classes, including Physics, Calculus, English, and Government.

In addition to his excellent classroom performance, Deionte was a standout on the EHS's stage. During his four years of high school, Deionte participated in Varsity Chorale, Forte (Honors Choir) and Big Show. He was also a member of our Academic Challenge team and wrote for the student newspaper.

Deionte was fortunte enough to have multiple scholarship offers from which to choose. Before committing to Brown, Deionte strongly considered Miami (OH), and Xavier Universities. Deionte credits many Euclid High School teachers for helping him to succeed, but noted two, specifically: "Ms. Amato (English) and Mrs. Ross (Varsity Chorale) always pushed me to my limits and made me into a better student than I thought I could become." Deionte plans to study Biology at Brown, in preparation to subsequently attend medical school.

Deionte moved to Euclid from Warrensville in the sixth grade and attended Central Middle School. He lives on Crystal Ave. with his mother, step-father, and sister.
