Old Blue Eyes Did It in 1955, Lady Gaga Did It in 2014, and Indiana Jones Did It in Mandarin in 1984
“In olden days, a glimpse of stocking
Was looked on as something shocking.
But now, God knows,
Anything goes.”
Anything Goes is the iconic title song from the play of the same name featuring music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The play contains some of the most memorable and hummable songs in musical theater such as It's De-Lovely, I Get A Kick out of You, and You're the Top. Anything Goes has been performed by a myriad of artists from Frank Sinatra to the Dave Brubeck Quartet. The title song features in a collaboration between Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett, and parts of it were translated into Mandarin for the movie Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom in 1984.
It's no wonder, then, that the show and its music attract cast and crew members from all walks of life. The Silhouette Production at Shore Cultural Centre in October is no exception. Laura Telepak is most often found teaching art at North Elementary School but this production finds her in the role of Director. She is excited to be around a talented cast that “brings energy and creativity to every rehearsal.”
Clayton Minder plays the role of Moonface Martin when not in character as the Chief Financial Officer of Envision Holdings. “I challenge anyone to walk out of this production not humming one or several tunes for days,” he says. He didn't start performing in community theater until he was 40, and credits his wife and daughters for encouraging him to audition for his first performance.
Josh Linerode is often seen with a bow, but he'll be taking a bow in the role of Ship's Purser in this production. Few people know that Josh is a licensed archery instructor. Instead he's most often mistaken for a basketball player since he clocks in just shy of 7 feet tall. Josh is an Advising Generalist at Lake Erie College and says that learning to tap dance for this role is the most challenging part he's undertaken to date. He thinks the audience will enjoy the plot twists and turns and seeing how much fun the cast is having onstage.
Anything Goes will be performed October 18-19 and 25-26 at 7:30 pm. Catch a matinee on October 20 or 27 at 2:00 pm. All performances will be at Shore Cultural Centre, 291 East 222nd Street, Euclid, Ohio.
