The Standard’s Five Course Wine Dinner

On Monday, June 10th I had the pleasure of attending a wine dinner  (the first of many to come) at The Standard, 779 E. 185th St. The restaurant was packed with customers attending the wine dinner as well as the regular dinner crowd, but the efficient staff kept everything running smoothly.

The wine tastings I have attended at other restaurants only give you a small portion of food for each course. Not at The Standard. We received full portions at every course and the food was amazing from start to finish. I give this meal six stars out of a possible five.

The real secret to the success of The Standard is how everyone is made to feel like family by the chef/owner Said. I really feel like I’m going to dinner at my favorite cousin’s house. If my cousin was a world-class chef from Morocco.

The menu and wine pairings included:

Bell Sauvignon Blanc

Soup de Poisson -conger eel, shrimp, lobster, and halibut purée

Glenbrook Chardonnay

Salad Fize -fingerlings, nicoise olives, red beets, green beans, and eggs

Aimery Brut

Foie Gras -white truffles and risotto

Mira Napa Chardonnay

Airline Chicken -Gruyere, prosciutto, with mornay sauce

Airfield Reserve Cabernet

4oz Filet -shiitake mushroom demi glacé

Chris Hammer hosted the wine portion of the event and handled the wine serving with grace and efficiency. It was a great opportunity to try new wines and take a few home with us.

We are blessed to have this gem of a restaurant in our neighborhood. Come in for lunch. Come in for dinner. Come in for cocktails and enjoy the live music. Do not miss the next wine tasting. The schedule is on their Facebook page and I recommend reservations.
