Seriously, when was the last time you heard a classical accordionist perform with a 40 piece chamber orchestra? You can on March 15th at 7:30pm at St. Jerome Church when City Music Cleveland welcomes the internationally known Bosnian composer and accordionist Merima Ključo. She will perform “Sarajevo Haggadah: Music of the Book” from “TWO FAITHS: ONE SPIRIT” which she composed. The work was inspired by the story of breathtakingly illustrated Jewish manuscript created in the 15th century and saved from the Nazis in Sarajevo by a Muslim Imam during WWII.
Accordionist Joe Strukel, a Euclid resident, was one of six polka performers to score their first wins at the 30th annual Polka Music Awards, presented by the National Cleveland-Style Polka Hall of Fame and Museum at the Cleveland Downtown Marriott Ballroom. Twenty-two awards were presented at a gala stage show on Saturday, November 25, 2017. The Awards Show was the high point of the 54th Thanksgiving Polka Party Weekend. The Tony Petkovsek Award was presented by the founder of the Thanksgiving Polka Weekend to Jan Horvath and Vice President Mark Habat, chairman of the three-day event.

The Golden Age of the American amusement park lasted from the late 1890’s to the late 1920’s. At that time America was becoming more industrial, and individuals had more disposable income and time for entertainment. Hundreds of amusement parks opened in and around most major cities to offer one form of entertainment. Cleveland was no exception as many amusement parks opened. Better known were: Luna Park, White City, Puritas Springs, Chippewa Lake Park, Geauga Lake Park. Lesser known or remembered parks include; Scenic Park, Lincoln Park, Washington Park, Forest City Park, Willoughbeach Park, Gordon Gardens, Orchard Lake Park, Brady Lake, and Mentor Beach Park. Missing from both lists is arguably Cleveland’s most beloved amusement park, Euclid Beach Park which operated from 1895 to 1969. Individuals growing up in an around Cleveland and who had the opportunity to visit the park on the shores of Lake Erie, have fond and sentimental memories of the amusement park. Just mentioning Euclid Beach Park to someone who remembers the park will prompt a smile and story. Luckly large pieces of Euclid Beach Park have survived these 48 years since the park’s final season. Euclid Beach Park’s “Grand Carousel” has operated in the Cleveland History Center of the Western Reserve Historical Society in Cleveland’s University Circle since the grand opening in 2014. Not many carousels have survived since the Golden Age of the amusment park. The Euclid Beach Park carousel operated at an amusement park in Old Orchard Beach after the park closed. Besides surviving the carousel returned to Cleveland something a very few carousels have done, returning to the city where it first operated. Another amazing event, the band organ that was with the carousel for 59 years at Euclid Beach Park is again with the ride after it made its own journeys. Two different owners have the three rocket ships from the parks Rocket Ship circle swing ride both have motorized them and can be seen during Cleveland’s warmer months traveling area roadways. One rocket ship car owner also acquired a roller coaster car from the park’s Thriller coaster and has it mounted to the back of a 1930’s pickup truck thus street legal.
David Smeltz has a life story to share. He has lived two lives and enters a new one through his written works...CLEAN-FROM REGGAE TO RECOVERY. As co-founder of a very popular Cleveland Reggae group I-Tal in 1977 his success took a turn and he found himself homeless and strung out in the 90's. A dramatic story unfolds as his turn-around now provides support for others through the non profit organization, Clean House, Inc.

If it has to do with the wind, there’s a good chance it will be at the Euclid Wind Festival taking place Saturday, June 17 from 3:00- 8:00pm in Sims Park, at 23131 Lakeshore Boulevard near downtown Euclid. The Euclid Wind Festival, presented by the City of Euclid and Shore Cultural Centre, has a wide variety of activities for the entire family derived from the wind, of which there is an abundance on the shores of Lake Erie.
PetFix Northeast Ohio will hold its popular fundraiser, "Sips for Snips" on Sunday, July 16 from 2 to 5 pm. This year, the event will take place at a new venue - Ferrante Winery in Geneva. There will be lots of entertainment for attendees and their well-behaved dogs. In addition to raffles and great food, guests will be able to try Ferrante’s wines.
