A Spiritual Journey to Awaken the Real You

This season traditionally is a time of harvesting the rewards from the seeds that you planted throughout the year.   Is this true for you?  Have you made progress or accomplished what you had planned for yourself and your family?  Human nature gives us opportunity to procrastinate.  We can all be guilty of putting off difficult tasks or difficult discussions in the desire to change behaviors, attitudes and commitments thereby  living a healthier and more fulfilling life.

Which Health Nut Are You?

There are many types of health nuts - I am a combo of several! Are YOU any of these health nuts?

My cousins are the oxalate educators & avoiders- for good reason- especially concerning kidney stones and other ailments usually unknowingly caused by high oxalate diets.

Then I know some people that blame all their ailments on parasites. And they know how to hopefully avoid them and kill them off if they inhabit their bodies.

Then there’s the “candida soldiers” who avoid any foods that make yeast grow! Good idea!  Check out “The Yeast Connection” by William Crook.

We all know those vegans who think all meats are unhealthy - (my opinion some are! ) and they eat anything that never had a face - plus and I agree -it’s cruel to animals,  ( but I still eat some, & occasionally feel guilty) But the Bible says it’s okay.

Hospice of the Western Reserve Earns National Honor for Innovative Palliative Care Program

Western Reserve Navigator (WRN), a home-based palliative care program provided by Hospice of the Western Reserve, was recognized as one of three programs in the U.S. expanding the reach of palliative and end-of-life care in their community. Palliative care focuses on providing relief from symptoms and improving the quality of life for people living with advanced illness.

The Circle of Life Award®, now in its 20th year, shines a light on programs and organizations that can serve as models or inspiration for other providers. Hospice of the Western Reserve received the award Friday, July 26, at the American Hospital Association’s annual Leadership Summit in San Diego.

“The work of this year’s honorees represents the most innovative and creative thinking in end-of-life care,” said AHA President and CEO Rick Pollack. “Through the use of technology, integrated systems of care and community support, these programs have raised the bar for meeting the needs of patients and their families.”

Health Hugs: Small things make Big differences

“It’s a whole lot easier to stay well than to get well” These words were written on a plaque on the wall of a chiropractic office I was visiting. It was that small plaque with those words that changed my whole career path, seemingly in an instant.

A New Medicare Bill for Seniors

A New Medicare Bill will enhance senior Americans' access to and coverage for safe drug free care, reducing the reliance on opioids and decreasing the risk of falls

The Opioid Epidemic is the largest public health crisis America has ever faced and it's far from over. Let's not forget that this crisis had its origins with prescription medications, which were most commonly written for musculoskeletal conditions such as back pain. Sadly, this may have been avoided if Americans had made use of the safe and effective drug free methods of pain care available resulting in less reliance on prescription medications for pain.

Our aging population contends with pain on a daily basis. Wear and tear results in painful arthritic conditions necessitating frequent trips to the doctor where the usual recommendations are expensive imaging such as MRIs along with pain medications, many of which are potentially addictive. The end result can be expensive back, hip and knee injections, and surgeries with even more medications in recovery.  Medications, especially opioids, disturb balance and can contribute to the risk of falling.  Falls and their complications are the 3rd leading cause of death in seniors behind heart disease and cancer, which currently results in an annual cost to Medicare of over $30 billion.

August Happy Hippy Mama

Hi All-

Happy Summer!  It is safe to say summer is finally here!  It certainly warmed up and dried out (for the most part) these past few weeks.  My family has been spending lots of days in the summer sun and at the pool! I am ever thankful for the VItamin D and memories we are making.  I hope you all have enjoyed the weather and stayed cool.

I was ever hopeful we would get our big garden in this year.  Our family manages the community garden at East Shore Methodist Church on Lakeshore Blvd. (across from Sims Park.)  Last year was our first year, we had a wonderful time, but not such a great harvest thanks to the deer. An Eagle Scout Candidate offered to help us with this problem and gave our garden a much needed face lift as a part of his Eagle project.  He removed our old raised beds and turned the space into one large bed with a nice 4 ft. fence surrounding it. It was a wonderful renovation and will make gardening in the space much easier. That being said the work combined with the heavy rain we sadly did not get much of anything done in the space this year.  Lucky for us we are of the Cleveland mentality, and we know “there is always next year. “

A Spiritual Journey to the Real You

Amazing, isn't it that the year 2020 is actually less than six months away.  It has been a year in the future for so long, or so it seemed.

I ask myself, have I done what was somewhat planned to do in 2019?  Or did I leave my plans unfinished and left to chance?  If left to chance, they probably didn't happen.  But sometimes I purposely don't make plans.  I create ideas of what I would like to do or experience and focus on these thoughts daily.  And to my delight, the best things happen.  Summer vacation travel was one of these joyful thoughts.  I have been to Florida several times to visit family and friends.  Earlier this year, I thought about heading south.  Through spring and early summer the desire was still there.  But I never confirmed arrival dates in May or June.  Then an unexpected phone call gave me the greatest joy.  My travel didn't have to happen because I would get a visitor for a week that I really wanted to see.    In my belief system, Spirit is good to me. The Universe heard my thoughts and provided a solution that was most acceptable to me and others.  Is this the great Law of Manifesting action.  I believe so.

A Glimpse into the Stars

What is Astrology?   Many people imagine they know the answer to this question. A curiosity leap may lead some to associate this art with fortune telling or wishful thinking at best.  Others try to debunk it once and for all.

A strange thing happens in many cases.     First, as they begin to investigate past the contemporary popular facade surrounding astrology, they find a very complex, fascinating and serious discipline which has existed for millennia and has some form of serious expression in all major cultures of the world since their begins.  Then they begin to discover a point of view of being able to predict future events.  While an extremely competent astrologer may be able to do this, prediction of the future is not at all what astrology is for and never has been. There is historical evidence it has been used in this manner along with other disciplines in order to sustain a "people" through their sojourn to and through modernity.  For example, in the country of India, there are people who make  quite a good living casting and interpreting what are     known as Sidereal charts.

Celebrate Your Life

As a kid, did you ever peer inside a kaleidoscope? If so, can you recall your fascination with the designs and colors? Or, did you spend hours sifting through odd objects to create a fort or a lemonade stand? Perhaps you spent your time creating costumes and acting out imaginary stories. Or did you spend hours riding your bike, practicing sports or hanging out with friends? If not, you may be able to recall a brief time when you felt safe, relaxed or content.

A Spiritual Journey to Awakening the Real You

Do you have trouble finding peace and joy when all around you is anything but peaceful?  Are you challenged with a "tiger roar" when something happens that isn't to your preference? Do your thoughts race or wander?  You are not alone.  One of the most challenging life lessons is learning to awaken the sense of balance that is our divine birth right..  Peace, harmony and joy are within us if we get personality out of the way.  Most people want life to happen on their terms and strive to make it so.  Having, doing and being is living life in a reverse fashion  The key to success is BEING, DOING AND HAVING according to wisdom offered by author Neal Donald Walsh.  This message also comes through in the Path of Light teachings by Dr. Robert  Crary.    BE the peace and joy you desire.  Take a moment to quiet your thoughts with a gentle breath.  Take a second breath and by the time a third breath occurs,  this centering practice awakens an inner power to align your mind, body and spirit to your perfect design.  It takes practice but is so worth doing. Living a conscious life is living fully in the moment.  Awaken to your real self.
