Bistro 185 is Better Than Ever

I have had a lot of good times and good food in the beautiful blonde brick building at 991 E. 185th St. Starting with fish fries  at Fritz's with my parents. Then later, watched  some great bands there during the jazz-Uncle John's stage.  Ruth and Marc Levine had a really successful run as Chef owners. I have to tell you, I think this current version is my favorite.

Chef Ryan Kaston purchased the Bistro  in September of 2016. There were a few bumps in the road. There were some personnel changes. Everything has been straightened out and Bistro 185 is now putting out some gorgeous, inventive, and delicious food. The service is back to excellent.

Focusing on fresh seafood and local ingredients the menu is very accessible. Old favorites have stayed on the menu, some with a new twist. On our most recent visit we had two of the specials.  I had the Canary Rockfish served on a bed of white onion risotto with fresh tomato and herb consommé. My partner had the 7 ounce certified Angus beef filet served with fingerling potatoes, seared asparagus,  fried onion, and tomato garlic confit. Both were scrumptious.

Not only the entrees are  amazing. The unique happy hour food and appetizers, including super  fresh mussels are delicious. To complete your meal, be sure to finish with a not-to be missed dessert, hand crafted with love by Miss Vicki. Start to finish the meal is perfection .

There have been changes to the staff. Miss Amy Pheneger who you may remember from the Grovewood, has been added to the bar. An old veteran has returned and some excellent new hirs have been made. These additions added to your all-time favorites on the wait staff, have returned the service at the Bistro to 5 stars.

If you are a regular like me, then keep coming back. If you used to love this place, but happened to come during one of those small bumps in the road, come on back. You'll be happy you did.

Infield Chiropractic Moves to New Location

Infield Chiropractic has moved to a new location at 22570 Lakeshore Blvd.  After four years at our previous location we have outgrown our space.  We have decided to stay in Euclid and purchased the former Curves building about two years ago.  Since then we have fully remodeled the interior and exterior of the building.  We have been able to reinvest without passing the cost along to our patients, keeping our rates the same as the day we opened.  Yes, we still offer $20 sports physicals for the community’s youth! This is a large investment in this community for a small business like ours.  We plan on being in Euclid for a very long time and have come across some wonderful people in our time here so far.  Dr. Paul has been very busy, not just taking care of patients but also by being very active in the community.   He currently sits on the board of directors for the Euclid Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Ohio Academy of Chiropractic, and the Shore Culture Centre.  In addition due to Dr. Paul being a Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician, he has been chosen for a volunteer role with the United States Olympic Committee’s Sports Medicine staff and is volunteering his time with the Euclid High School volleyball team.  Thanks to the demand for high quality Chiropractic Care and the amount of time Dr. Paul spends working with various organizations in the community and nationwide, it was time to expand our staff.  We have brought in an Associate Chiropractor, Dr. Michael Lozitsky, to help provide more same day appointments and also brought on two additional staff members to help with day to day flow.  Infield Chiropractic is looking forward to serving Euclid and surrounding communities for many years to come.

Bronze Medallion Unveiled at the Joseph Farrell Memorial Fishing Pier

On a crisp autumn afternoon in early November, Mayor Holzheimer Gail welcomed a crowd of two dozen elected officials, community stakeholders, artists, engineers and family members of the late former City Council President Joseph Farrell to his namesake pier in Sims Park.

The event unveiled a four-foot diameter bronze medallion which was sculpted by Cleveland-based artist Ron Dewey and cast by Euclid artists Lisa and Mark Olitsky, owners of Studio Foundry. The medallion’s design, by the City of Euclid’s Community Projects Manager Allison Lukacsy-Love, was inspired by SmithGroupJJR’s waterfront banners and compass roses often seen on nautical structures.  The medallion sits on the northern end of the pier.

Among those gathered was State Representative Kent Smith and Senator Kenny Yuko, former City of Euclid Mayor Bill Cervenik, Councilwoman Charlene Mancuso and Councilman Daryl Langman as well as representatives from the City’s staff and police department. Ginny Farrell, wife of Joseph, and daughter Katie and her three children were recognized along with their extended family in memory of Joseph.

“It is so special to have the Farrell family with us this afternoon to unveil this unique piece of public art,” remarked Mayor Holzheimer Gail. “Joseph’s dedication to public service and commitment to education touched the lives of thousands of people in and around our community. His life’s work continues to burn bright in the memories of those who were fortunate to know him.”

Voinovich Service Held At Our Lady Of the Lake Church

Even in death, George Voinovich managed to provide a boost to his favorite Cathoilic parish—Our Lady of the Lake, formerly known as Holy Cross.

Never before – and probably never again – will the church at East 200th St. and Lake Shore Blvd. receive as much news coverage as it did during and after his funeral on June 17.

Voinovich, a former Cleveland mayor, Ohio governor, and U.S. senator – has long supported Our Lady of the Lake (OLL) – and Holy Cross before it -- sending several of his children to school there and generously supporting numerous events sponsored by the parish, such as the annual “Life on the Lake” fund-raiser that benefits the school. His newspaper obituary recommended two options for memorial donations in lieu of flowers: the Molly Voinovich Memorial Fund, in memory of his late daughter, and OLLCatholicSchool.

In Memoriam of George V. Voinovich 15 July 1936 – 12 June 2016

An old saying implores that we “remember the dash between the years of our birth and our death.  That dash may be short or long but no matter, for what is important is what we do with that dash between our coming and our going.”

We must ensure through our lives that that dash is defined by who we are and what we did for ourselves, our family, our community, our country or our world. Hopefully that time is filled with positive and fulfilling events and activities. Did we do something for someone else?  Did we have fun? Did we live life filled with others and concerned with others? Did we work for the greater good? If we could answer these honestly and positively, then we have lived our lives as any good Christian should, as any good person does.
