In a complete team effort that saw the Panthers dominate the second half, sensational sophomore Calasia Cunningham scored 22, Rayjon Harris scored 12 and Rashida Harris threw in 10. Sophomore Celina Vuyancih was phenomenal defensively, as was junior Alexis Hoxie. Advanced Biology Students Travel to the Cleveland Museum of Natural History

The Euclid High School Advanced Biology classes are studying the history of life, species adaptations and evolution.  The Cleveland Natural History Museum has excellent displays and explanations regarding these topics, so it was a natural choice for a field trip. 35 students made observations, notes, drawings and took photos of various displays as they explored the vast amounts of artifacts.  Upon returning to school, students worked in groups to summarize their findings and make short presentations based on their observations. This is another great example of how Euclid educators work hard to connect the classroom to the real world.

45 Seconds From Broadway

Bravo to the cast and crew of the Euclid High School Fall Play!

This year's fall play, "45 Seconds From Broadway" was written by Neil Simon. The show is based in a New York City café, a fictionalized tribute to the popular Broadway district eatery Café Edison. The patrons of this café include an array of melodramatic people who frequent the establishment, from a controversial comedian to a fading actress to matinee ladies, all taken care of by the couple who run the restaurant.

Euclid Central wins Play 60 for the second consecutive year

Brown and orange gear filled the Central Middle School gym yesterday afternoon as the Cleveland Browns came to recognize students for logging more than 2.2 million minutes of physical activity.  For six weeks, (Sept. 29-Nov. 7) Central Middle School students engaged in physical activity to log the most minutes in the greater-Cleveland area. The Browns PLAY 60 Challenge, in partnership with the American Heart Association, University Hospitals, the American Dairy Association Mideast, and Fuel Up to PLAY 60 is a six-week program for seventh- and eighth-grade students that provides schools additional opportunities to help students be active and healthy throughout the school day.

So five Browns players ventured to Central to honor the victors. Relay races, a dance-off and a chocolate milk toast made Tuesday an unforgettable event. Defensive back Johnson Bademosi, long snapper Christian Yount, Browns linebackers Keith Pugh and Chris Kirksey and wide receiver Kevin Cone showed Central students their dance moves.

This year marks a second consecutive win for Central Middle School and a third consecutive win for physical education teacher John Yuha. The top male student Joe Junkey logged more than 12,000 minutes and Kendra Stephens the top female student logged more than 11,000 minutes.

Lake Erie College, Cleveland State University, Youngstown State University, Kent State University, Lakeland Community College, and Cuyahoga Community College interviewed and accepted EHS students on the spot, thanks to the Guidance Department.

Lake Erie College alone had 17 applications and admitted 12 students. Those 12 students received over $100,000 of scholarships! It is programs like Instant College Admittance that allow us to "see the excitement on our students faces the moment they find out their acceptance status," EHS Guidance Counselor Katie Gonakis explains. Events like this, "give students the confidence to pursue higher education."

For more information on the Euclid High School and the students that are gaining acceptance to colleges and universities, visit the Euclid High School Facebook page.

A Celebration of Dance

Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio (DCNEO) recently partnered with Euclid City Schools and Fred Astaire Willoughby to host their first “Celebration of Dance” on Friday, October 17th at Shoreview Elementary School.  This was a family friendly event that served to bring the community together, through a “celebration of dance”, while supporting the work of Dancing Classrooms and its implementation within the Euclid City Schools.

Dancing Classrooms isn’t a dancing program; Dancing Classrooms is a social development program for 5th and 8th grade children that uses ballroom dance as its “tool” for getting children to break down social barriers, learn about honor and respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communicate and cooperate, and accept others even if they are different.

The event began with a welcome from DCNEO’s Executive Director, Jo Jo Carcioppolo, who explained how and why ballroom dancing is used as a “tool” within the Dancing Classrooms program.  This was followed up by a demonstration from a group of Dancing Classrooms students (some former and others current 5th graders) who elegantly danced the Merengue, Fox Trot, Rumba, and Swing.  Carcioppolo commented to the audience that the true testament to the program was that the students present on the stage represented a variety of schools both within Euclid and elsewhere and that though they had only just met fifteen minutes prior were now working together, as a team, to share their dances with the audience.

As the students were instructed to, “Take a Bow”, the owner of Fred Astaire Willoughby, Andrea Bisconti, was welcomed to the stage and the evening continued with Dancing Classrooms students now members of the audience.  This transition communicated how the arts, ballroom dance specifically, can continue to be a teaching “tool” throughout one’s life.  Fred Astaire Willoughby students ranging in ages and occupations performed a variety of dances and styles over the course of an hour which was then concluded with two special high energy numbers from the professional dancers of the studio.

The goal of the evening was to bring the community together in support of Dancing Classrooms’ mission and work within the Euclid City School District…and beyond.  With more than one-hundred people in attendance, a range of outstanding performances and a group dance lesson; all those in attendance both learned, and experienced, how Dancing Classrooms Northeast Ohio is “Transforming Lives – One Step at a Time”.

White Signs With Lindenwood Univeristy-Bellevillle

Bright and early on October 8th, 2014 EHS graduate Rachelle White declared her intent to play for Lindenwood University. Rachelle's family and friends gathered in the Panther Achievement Den at Euclid High School for breakfast as she signed her official letter of intent. Miss White will begin playing basketball at Lindenwood on a full-ride scholarship effective second semester of this year.

Coach Lynn Phillips shared with attendees that student-athletes like Rachelle shape the girls basketball program and inspire younger players to set high goals. We wish Rachelle the best of luck as she retires as a "panther" and advances to become a "lynx."
