Euclid Alumni Take 5 with Hannah Zavorek '10

She has since then made her way back home to Euclid where she works as a Program Administrator for the City of Euclid's Recreation Department, and serves at the C.E. Orr Ice Arena Manager. Hannah has made it a priority to help build Euclid's youth community back up to the one she once knew, as she participated in the programs that she is currently involved with today.

Where did you grow up in Euclid?

I grew up in Indian Hills and lived there for 22 years. I then moved into my mother’s childhood home off of Lakeshore Boulevard.

Where did you go to school before Euclid High?

I attended St. Paul’s Church Elementary School on East 200th Street from kindergarten through sixth grade. At the end of sixth St. Paul’s school closed. I started my journey with the Euclid Public Schools in seventh grade at Euclid Central Middle School. I remember going school clothes shopping for the first time, since I no longer had to wear a uniform. I was so excited. The first day of school was so out of the norm because it was something that I never got to do. I was so nervous because it was a new school and I wouldn’t know anyone in my grade. Being the youngest out of my friend group and not knowing anyone was nerve-wracking. I remember Elise Cook and Shaunese Worthy trying to reassure me that everything was going to be okay. Turns out they knew what they were talking about. I was fine, made a lot of friends and continued on to Euclid High School where I graduated.

What teacher or class do you most remember and why?

Sophomore year at Euclid High I took English with Dawn Latessa Banc. It turned out to be one of my favorite classes and teachers from high school. She made me interested in learning. She was also someone whom I felt comfortable with to go to throughout the years of high school. She provided me with advice and direction to guide me through school. She was so much more than a teacher. When I left for college she would send little homesick packages. We have kept in touch throughout the years since I graduated.

Did you have a favorite spot in Euclid, and what did you like about it?

I can’t say that I have one favorite spot in Euclid. Throughout my childhood, it changed at different stages of my life. My neighborhood growing up was always something that I will forever love. It is where I met my childhood friends Shaunese Worthy, Shannon Weems and Elise Cook. In our neighborhood, there would always be kids outside playing games and having so much fun. We would play so many games from Barbies to hide and seek, to Sims Park on a rainy day. Next, we all reached high school where we all started to find our place and met more people. We then started to discover our new favorite spots that would become permanent throughout high school. Mine was the actual high school. I would spend hours there in a lot of different after-school activities, from football to basketball and track. Coming full circle, Mac Stephens was a Euclid football coach and now I am one of his employees in the City of Euclid's Recreation Department.

What, if anything, about your Euclid High experience would you do over?

I wouldn’t say I would do over anything because, all-in-all, I had a pretty good high school experience. If anything, I wish I would have gone to more dances and got a little more involved with other groups. I would also tell myself that you're only young once so make the most out of it. In some ways I did, but other ways I didn’t.
