Young Vikings represent well at HIT with 6th-place team finish

The VASJ Vikings continued to wrestle hard as a very young team capable of scoring plenty of points took sixth place out of 17 teams at the Hawken Invitational Tournament.

Five VASJ wrestlers placed in the tournament:

113 – Darian Davis, freshman, 6th place. Davis lost a close contest in his placement match while leading most of the way.

132 – Fillipo Pavlica, sophomore, finished 5th in dramatic fashion. Down 10-2, Pavlica hit a pancake to the back and pinned for 5th.

145 – Team captain Nate Oriani took 4th in a very talented weight class.

195 – Team captain and “Cardiac Kid” Josh Longstreet won in the last second during his consolation semifinal match with a hip toss with seconds left while losing in points at the time. He finished with a pin with one second left to advance to the 3rd-place match. In that match, again down, Longstreet found a way to hit a five-point move and finished with another pin for 3rd place.

285 – Tyler Boyd grinded through the heavyweights to take a very impressive 3rd place. The first tournament place for Boyd.

Other notable efforts included Sean Doley at 2-2 and Charlie Mullin at 2-2. Both a match away from placing.
