Euclid Alumni News

Barbara Korencic Meadows, Euclid Senior High School Class of 1957, and Mary Vinciguerra Guhde, Euclid Central High School Class of 1937, prepare for Mary's 100th Birthday at Notre Dame Village in Chardon, Ohio.

I just had my first opportunity to meet a Centenarian, Mrs. Mary Vinciguerra Guhde, who turned 100 years old on November 1st. Happy Birthday Mary! Mary graduated from Euclid Central High School in 1937 and grew up on Miller Avenue, between E. 200th and E. 222nd Streets. Before attending Central, she was a student at Roosevelt Elementary School. Mary married Robert Guhde in 1939 and they had four children, Robert, Gail, Margaret and Gary. Her husband Robert passed away in 2002.

The residents of Notre Dame Village in Chardon, where Mary lives, celebrated the special occasion with two large birthday cakes, balloons, snacks and polka music provided by accordianist, Sister Mary Lisette. Superintendent of the Euclid City School District, Chris Papouras ('86), sent his birthday wishes and the Euclid Public Schools Alumni Association dusted off the framed photo montage of the Euclid Central Class of 1937 to display and give Mary the chance to wax nostalgic of old friends and bygone days. A special thanks to Barbara Korencic Meadows ('57), a friend of Mary's and a fellow resident at Notre Dame Village, as well as a former Miller Avenue resident herself, who helped with arranging many of the details of the event.

Please join us at the Euclid Culinary Bistro at Shore Cultural Centre for the Holiday Buffet on Wednesday, December 18th. We will have an alumni table at 11:45 a.m. for any Euclid alumni or friends who would like to join us. Please e-mail alumni@euclidschools.org or call us at (216) 797-7895 to hold a seat for you.

Save the Date! We hope to hold a special event on Saturday, May 30th, 2020 to take advantage of the opportunity to see the newer sections of the Euclid High School before parts of the old school building are  removed as part of the upgrade to the Euclid Middle School and High School Campus. More to follow here and on our website, euclidalumni.org, and on our facebook page. Go Admirals, Lions and Panthers!
