Captains Ballplayers Visit Mary Mavec School

Mary Mavec Opportunity School recently had the opportunity to meet two rising stars with the Lake County Captains. Catcher Josh Rollette and right-handed pitcher Thomas Ponticelli dropped by the school to visit with the students and staff. The visit was arranged by Dave Lawrence, owner of Lakeshore Coffee House, who is graciously hosting both ballplayers this season.

The ballplayers had just returned from a successful road trip through Iowa and Illinois. The team is currently in second place for the second half in their division and have successfully nailed down a spot in the fall playoffs.

Josh and Thomas spent some time answering questions and talking about their summeron the Lake County Captains team. They were also interested to find out that Jerry Dybzinski, a former shortstop with the Cleveland Indians, is related to one of the group.  Josh and Thomas brought along an autographed baseball which was won by Brian Tobin.

The students were pleased to meet Josh and Thomas, especially since they planned to attend a game the next day. They promised to watch for the two ballplayers at future games and hopefully with the Cleveland Indians one day.

Mary Mavec Opportunity School’s mission is to provide a stimulating, rewarding and stable environment for adults with developmental disabilities in a rewarding setting that encourages life-long growth. The school is located at 21701 Lakeshore Blvd in Euclid. Visitors are welcome.
