July Happy Hippy Mama

Hi All-

Happy Summer errrrrr I think it is summer.  It is July, right? :) I was ever hopeful this months column would be about my garden and the lovely warm weather.  Unfortunately, Mother Nature had other plans and I will have to wait a bit longer as this weather and constant rainfall has left everything too soggy for planting.  It is my hope that next month I can share some of my gardening tips, and more about how getting my hands dirty has helped me to deal and heal over time.

The last few weeks I have been participating in an eight-week health challenge for Euclid and Cleveland residents. The Healthy Community Initiative challenge is a collaborative effort between Cleveland Clinic and community partners to promote optimal health and wellness. A few friends and I signed up on a whim.  It has been so much fun, and something I would recommend everyone try if they do it again!

We have received free and reduced exercise classes, and supportive emails.  It has encouraged my friends and me to try new places for exercise classes, and find new and exciting activities to participate in.  We have tried boot camp, spinning, yoga, and even started our own Couch to 5K group. We received a reduced rate on our pool passes, and the Euclid Recreation Center offers free lap swims.  It has further encouraged us to eat healthy and track our weight. Working hard, and making healthy choices can be a lot of fun and this is a wonderful example. Visit Energizing Euclid on Facebook to learn more about this challenge.

Another activity that I feel helps to keep me mentally fit, is facilitating a Grief Group at East Shore Methodist Church on Monday evenings at 7:30 pm.  A few months back I felt called to share my grief story with others and to make space for people who are walking a difficult path in life. All are welcome, if you have experienced, death, loss of a job, or if you feel alone and in need of support please join us.

No one person's grief or loss is the same, but we can all walk together, even on different paths.  I hope the space is a place where we can come together and talk about difficult things, but also rebuild a new life which allows for a bright future, even when it feels hard.

To continue the conversation or if you have any questions please feel free to email me at HappyHippyMama@yahoo.com or visit us on Facebook at Happy Hippy Mama.
