Save the Date for Shade Tree Commission 2019 Arbor Day Celebration

The Shade Tree/Municipal Beautification Commission is responsible for promoting and initiating the planting of trees throughout the city and are honored to put forth an annual Arbor Day Celebration and tree planting. This year, two trees will be planted in honor of Euclid stewards and longtime friends, Dr. Roy Larick and Dave Lawrence. The celebration and planting of two burr oak trees will be held at the Lakefront Community Center, 1 Bliss Lane, on Friday, April 26th at 6 pm. Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer-Gail will present the honorees and their families with an official Arbor Day certificate.

Dr. Roy Larick, a lifelong resident, is an archaeologist and conservation activist, receiving the title of Conservation Educator of the Year presented by the Cuyahoga Soil & Water Conservation District in 2017. He has been the Vice President of the Euclid Historical Society for the past seventeen years, served on the Euclid Landmark Commission 2003-2009, and as owner of Bluestone Heights, conducts presentations and leads hands-on field trips throughout northeast Ohio to educate people on the unique nature and history of places in our region.

Dave Lawrence, also a lifelong resident of Euclid, led his community in various elected and appointed positions and later in life promoted improved walking and bike trails throughout our city. Sadly, Dave passed away in 2017 but his activism lives on with the Dave Lawrence Bike Legacy, established by his family to carry forward his mission of improving the community by delivering bicycles, basic maintenance and ridership education.

The City of Euclid and the Shade Tree/Municipal Beautification Commission welcomes all residents and visitors to the Arbor Day Celebration at the Lakefront Community Center on April 26th at 6 pm.
