Message from the Mayor

This month I would like to talk about people who make a difference.  I attended the Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner last week and want to acknowledge and thank those who received awards for the impact they make in our community;  Lincoln Electric, LaParaDe Early Learning Center, Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Ss. Robert and William’s Parish, Ed Bonchak, Briardale Greens, Euclid Observer and HGR.  This group represents businesses of all sizes, community organizations and people who are making a difference in Euclid.  Congratulations and thank you for your commitment! 

The Dave Lawrence Bike Legacy demonstrates how one person’s commitment continues and drives actions of others to help.  Dave passed away in 2017, but left behind his love for biking and a legacy that has spurred a group to create a program that helps provide bikes and teaches bike ridership skills to kids and families in need in Euclid.  To learn more, click on www.dlbike.org .  As a city, we were happy to approve their 2018 Engage Euclid Grant submission to help get this program up and running.

The community came together to vote Frank Macuga, a Euclid Crossing Guard, as “America’s Favorite Crossing Guard.”  While he was the top vote getter, he was not ultimately chosen by Safe Kids as the top winner.  He is, of course, “Euclid’s Favorite Crossing Guard” and we want to honor him for making a difference.  Thanks to the organizing of resident Renee Carbone in partnership with the Euclid Schools, Euclid Community Policing and many other groups, we will honor Mr. Macuga on Saturday April 28th from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Euclid High School E- Room with “Frank Macuga Safety Day.”  Please come to celebrate him and all our community is doing to make Euclid a safe and healthy community. 

Thanks to the hard work of our Euclid Shade Tree Commission, Euclid has once again received the Tree City USA award.  The Shade Tree Commission will also help us celebrate Arbor Day on Friday April 27th at 6:00pm at City Hall and will plant trees to honor two women who make a difference:  former Councilwoman Kandace Jones and Imani Church Pastor Michele Humphrey.  Join us to recognize their contributions for making a difference in Euclid. 

I also want to invite each of you to help us “Keep Euclid Beautiful” by joining in The Big Clean on Saturday April 21st from 9:00am to noon.  Join us at VASJ High School between 9 and 9:30am to pick up supplies – join us yourself, as a family, as a church group, business, neighborhood group or club to help us keep Euclid beautiful.  Every effort counts and each and every one of us can make a difference!  For more information or to register, call 216-289-2786 or go to www.cityofeuclid.com.

There are so many ways individuals and groups are making a difference in Euclid.  Each individual act is important and is helping us improve our community.  Thanks to you for making a difference in your corner of Euclid!
