OLL Students Get Real-Life Lessons in STEM Program

Each year, Our Lady of the Lake School features a STEM program, thanks to generous support from the Dominion Foundation. This year our theme was  Celebrating Green Space, and what a wonderful theme it was!

Thanks to the leadership of 7th grade teacher, Mrs. Jenny Millett, and 2nd grade teacher, Miss Lauren Zbiegien, the students were able to participate in events and field trips throughout the year, including a trip to an aquaponics farm, visits from county representatives who taught about recycling and composting (and students even built their own compost bins!), and participation in the Great Lakes Great Apple Crunch. Classes visited the West Side Market, learned about local foods and created displays to share knowledge on a range of STEM topics. This all culminated in a showcase at the end of STEM week, attended by family, friends, and parishioners. The students had a wonderful time – and they had invaluable opportunities to apply their learning in real-life settings. STEM week at OLL School is a great example of how we take learning outside the classroom, with innovative curriculum and a creative teaching team.
