Keeping Euclid Beautiful, Rain or Shine

Rain didn’t put a damper on the latest collaboration with volunteers and “Keep Euclid Beautiful”.  Sixteen (16) freshman from Case Western Reserve University learned one of life’s most important mantras August 24th; overcome and adapt.  The original plan for this morning was to paint and repair the Skate Park on Milton Avenue but the weather had a different plan.  So this group of students along with Keep Euclid Volunteers pitched in and cleaned up the inside of CE Orr arena.

Under the guidance of City of Euclid Service department employees, students washed windows, mopped floors and bleachers, laid rubber mats and gave the entire arena and concession stand a thorough cleaning.  The arena is in transition from its summer season of hosting the Woman’s Burning River Roller Derby to Hockey and Ice Skating fall and winter seasons.  A special thanks goes out to the service department who are responsible for this task and took the time to include these students so they could complete their volunteer service.  Many students were very surprised to see how much work goes in behind the scenes to get this size of a building ready for public use.

Case Western Reserve University requires a morning of volunteer service, for all incoming freshman, in the city of Cleveland or an adjoining suburb in order to integrate their students into the surrounding community where they will be living for the next four years.  “Keep Euclid Beautiful” also took the time to show the students a bit of Euclid and how much it has to offer from beautiful parks to restaurants, pools and a growing bike community.

Most of the students expressed a desire to return and also complete the original project of painting the Skate Park.   All of the supplies to paint and repair the park were donated by our local Sherwin Williams store so “Keep Euclid Beautiful” will be arraigning another volunteer date soon to accomplish this.  Visit our webpage on the City of Euclid’s website for upcoming opportunities to volunteer and help beautify our city.  The website is www.cityofeuclid.com .
