Join in on the fun: This Is Euclid Art Walk celebrates a revitalizing, walkable downtown Euclid

Enjoy a leisurely stroll in downtown Euclid where the sidewalks will be lined with interactive art stations, live music, artist vendors, free ice cream and more.

The City of Euclid is hosting its second “This Is Euclid” Art Walk in downtown Euclid on Friday, September 22nd from 6-11pm. The free community event is to take place in the newly renovated Triangle Park at Shore Cultural Centre and along the sidewalks and storefronts on Lakeshore Boulevard between E.218th Street and E.228th Street.

The event is part of an initiative of the City of Euclid’s Department of Planning and Development to create a vibrant downtown and made possible with support from Shore Cultural Centre, Euclid Art Association and numerous resident volunteers and local business owners.

The first ever Art Walk popped up last fall and featured 30 large window clings of winning photographs from the inaugural “This Is Euclid” photography contest (which asked residents and visitors to Euclid to share photographs of their favorite people, places and things in Euclid using the hashtag #thisiseuclid). Over 750 photographs were received and displayed throughout the downtown alongside local musicians and artist vendors. This year’s Art Walk marks the official unveiling additional winning photographs enlarged and displayed on a printed mural at Beach Club Bistro.

The 2017 event is a scaled up version of the inaugural event, featuring the performances of hip-hop artists 10k and Atlas of AYYEDEESMM, New Orleans-styled Phatbone Productions and Jazz band Blu Monsoon in Triangle Park. Adults can partake in the beer garden while participants of all ages enjoy interactive art-making activities from the Cleveland Museum of Art’s StudioGo, Upcycle Parts Shop and Euclid Art Association members.

Take a leisurely stroll through downtown alongside Pickup-Stix stilt walkers and sway to the sounds of musicians along Lakeshore Boulevard while indulging in art-themed happy hour specials at local restaurants and free ice cream courtesy of Maria’s Family Restaurant. Artist and maker vendors will line the sidewalks selling their creations while currently available storefronts boast citywide student art. Don’t miss out on a free caricature portrait and photograph with our “This Is Euclid” selfie sign.

Starting Monday, September 18th,  the public is invited to partake in the inaugural “Find Finny” scavenger hunt where people can search for a stylized Lake Erie perch in storefronts and restaurants to win prizes. The first one hundred respondents will automatically win a prize sponsored by Chipotle. The hunt “passport” can be found at local businesses in September.

The Art Walk will kick off on Friday evening with the Euclid Farmers’ Market from 3-6:30pm with music by Denny Carleton and performances by some of Shore Cultural Centre’s artistic programs. Mayor Holzheimer Gail will give opening remarks at the top of Triangle Park (at the intersection of E.222nd Street and Babbitt Road) at 6:30pm, congratulating the photography contest winners and encouraging everyone to make the most of Euclid’s downtown.

Also notable is a change in traffic patterns on Lakeshore Boulevard westbound from E.217th Street to E.220th Street to allow for temporary on-street parallel parking the weekend of the Art Walk, creating a more walkable district and accommodating increased restaurant patronage. On-street parking will be allowed on the north side of Lakeshore Boulevard in front of Great Scott Tavern and Beach Club Bistro on Friday, September 22nd from 4pm to 2am.
