2017 Euclid Wind Fest Called “Excellent” by Many

The 2017 edition of Euclid Wind Fest was deemed an enthusiastic success.  The family-friendly event took place Saturday, June 17 at Sims Park on the grass and the beach, a truly surf and turf event.  The afternoon kicked off with the rockin' sounds of Parmageddon--a five-piece band from, you guessed it—Parma.  They played throughout the event keeping things moving and people dancing in the sand.  Also, on the beach was the always-busy Shore Cultural Centre kids’ activity tent shared with the Girl Scouts, Euclid Public Library and Kiddie City.  Euclid City Schools helped children make sandcastles and after receiving a mini bucket and sand tools to take home. DancEvert led a parade of happy drummers, banner-wavers and kazoo players who winded their way through the park and down onto the beach where Tom Evert performed an impressive butterfly dance amidst large ribbons of undulating silk.  Evert and a partner also performed an intriguing wind-themed dance on stationary ski boots.

The zip-line ride was very popular among children and adults where one could take a 225-foot-long trip down the zip-line at speeds up to 25 mph.  Nearby, the Cleveland Monsters and Gladiators displayed their inflatable giant logos offering hands-on hockey and football drills and maneuvers.

Dr. U.R. Awesome presented an amazing bubble show where he made soap bubbles both large and small which cascaded through the air and across the lawn.  Pick Up Stix stilt walkers were a crowd favorite and Flowers the Clown roamed the grounds making balloon animals for kids—a perfect Wind Fest souvenir.

Comments from attendees at the end of the day were positive and enthusiastic.  While the festival drew attendees primarily from Euclid, there were many visitors from surrounding communities.

The Wind Festival was made possible by the City of Euclid and Shore Cultural Centre and the residents of Cuyahoga County through a public grant from Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and by many local and area businesses who generously contributed monetarily and in-kind.  Special thanks to all who volunteered their time in putting on the 2017 Euclid Wind Festival.
