Euclid’s First Brewery Connects with the Community

Father Scott Goodfellow and Euclid Brewing Company's Doug Fry recently brewed an Oktoberfest for Ss. Robert & William Catholic Parish's upcoming event.

Since its opening in May the Euclid Brewing Company has endeavored to connect with its neighbors and the city’s residents. The nano-brewery’s two-barrel system is installed in full view of the tap room’s customers, and brewer-owner Doug Fry stays busy each week brewing and kegging a variety of beer styles.

An Oktoberfest beer will soon be on tap as a result of a brewing collaboration with Ss. Robert & William Parish. Father Scott Goodfellow, SSRW's parochial vicar and a homebrewer, brewed the lager with Fry in late August. The parish plans to serve most of the beer at its Oktoberfest event on Saturday, October 15. The rest will be available for purchase in the tap room.

An Oktoberfest beer is typically one of two German beer styles:A malty, dark Marzen, or a lighter Helles. The Oktoberfest made for Ss. Robert and William Parish will be the latter style, chosen because it’s a more refreshing beer, which could be important during the mild October days in Euclid.

“Father Scott was a joy to brew with. He is a very knowledgeable homebrewer, and has experience brewing many beer styles,” said Fry. “Father Scott and his father regularly brew 10-gallon batches.”

The vicar and some colleagues even came up with the name for the Oktoberfest: “Helles for Real.”

An EBC speaker series is being planned for Thursday evenings in October. Tap Talks will feature short educational lectures in the tap room, followed by a question and answer session with the speaker.  All ages are invited to Tap Talks, and attendees may bring in non-alcoholic beverages. Beer will be available for sale.

Euclid Brewing Company is located at 21950 Lake Shore Blvd. in downtown Eculid. The tap room is open Thursdays from 4 to 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 4 to 8 p.m. There are six beers always on tap, and pints, growlers, and tasting flights can all be purchased. The tap room doesn’t have a kitchen, but patrons may bring in food from any of the nearby restaurants, or from home. Follow Euclid Brewing Company on Facebook to learn about special hours, events and what’s on tap.
