Professional Dancer Tom Evert Launches Dance Program at Shore Cultural Centre

Tom Evert with dance students at Shore Cultural Centre in downtown Euclid.

Euclid resident Tom Evert has rededicated his mission to nourishing our cultural community with the art of dance by establishing an office and dance classes at Shore Cultural Centre, 291 E 222nd Street. He has a “Cinderfella” story: he grew up in Euclid (St. Williams) before moving to New York City to pursue a professional dance career. His dream was fulfilled as he blossomed into the role of a principal dancer with the world-renowned Paul Taylor Dance Company with which he performed in NYC and around the world.  In 1986, he and his wife Susana returned to Euclid to raise their son Max and found The Tom Evert Dance Company at Shore Cultural Centre. They created award- winning choreography and established a strong touring presence throughout the state. From 2007 to 2011, an opportunity with the arts education program of the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. lured the Everts away and brought national recognition to them as teaching artists offering integrated lessons in schools that teach the core curriculum and dance together. Student’s test scores jump with Evert’s “Geometry in Motion” program. Additionally, Evert has extended his performance career through certification in the Pilates Fitness Method and offers individual and group classes.

Home again at Shore Cultural Centre, Tom is recruiting new professionals and teaching dance classes for children, teens, and adults, providing them performance opportunities on the Shore Auditorium stage this spring and at community events such as the Euclid Wind Fest on June 25.
