Volunteers All Fired Up at the Euclid Police Range

Shooting range before

Saturday, April 11, 2015 was a really nice day. The weather was cool, but a bright sun hung in the sky. Several volunteers from the Euclid Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association headed out to the Euclid Police Department dressed in a uniform of sorts… The one you dig around in your closet for… way back in the closet. Your paint clothes.

An impressive electric paint sprayer was on hand. Volunteers streamed in with blue painters tape, fuzzy rollers, brushes, and armloads of plastic sheeting. Bullet-grazed walls were scraped smooth while partitions, target systems, and everything else that didn’t need a new paint job were covered and protected. We were there to paint the shooting range.

The rest of the alumni and I had the range all to ourselves from 10 in the morning until 4 that afternoon. Once the prep was finished, the first coat of paint went on smoothly, and a second coat was applied efficiently by an incredibly determined crew yielding paint rollers. Despite taking a coffee break or two, the walls were finished and the entire range was cleaned up by 2 pm.

ECPAAA aims to not only educate the public about the Euclid police, but also assist the Euclid PD with various tasks, and host fundraisers and events that support the department.

All the members of the ECPAAA are proud to have been able to express the appreciation and respect we have for the Euclid Police, the men and women of the force, and what they do for us.

The Euclid Home Depot helped us out with a 50% discount on equipment rental, and paint was generously donated by a paint and coating manufacturer based in Euclid, The Continental Products Co. And of course, the alumni volunteers, in no particular order:  Jean Schoeniger, Bob Ayers, Colleen Kendel, Peggy Owens, Carl Lake, Guy Wolford, Terri Zakraysek, Denny Brown, and Jen Wolford.

Last week, as if we didn’t think they were awesome enough already, Continental Products Co. donated 15 gallons of epoxy paint so we may do the floor of the range next. Bonus: those paint clothes will be right at the front of the closet this time.
