Harvest for Hunger

Harvest for Hunger began in 1992 and was organized by the Greater Cleveland Committee on Hunger. In 2003, the organization merged with the Cleveland Foodbank to fulfill its mission of working together to feed those at risk of hunger.

The Greater Cleveland Food Bank Harvest for Hunger Campaign started.

Harvest for Hunger – one of the largest annual, community-wide food and funds drives in the nation – provides critical resources to local hunger relief organizations in 21 counties in Northeast and North Central Ohio. Thanks to Our Community, businesses, supermarkets, schools and individuals across the region comes together every year and contributed enough resources to provide more than 16.5 million nutritious meals.

Unfortunately, the number of people turning to hunger centers for emergency food continues to rise. Harvest for Hunger is an important source of support for these hunger centers and the hundreds of thousands of people turning to them for help. The need is great, but with your support we will make a difference!

 HOW WE CAN HELP YOU?  The Cleveland Food Bank SNAP PROGRAM can help you apply for  the SNAP program (formerly FOOD STAMPS) and also  find your nearest pantry, Hot Meal or produce distribution in your area.  If you or someone you know is interested in our Food Assistance programs please call 216-738-2067.

Single moms like Michelle are thankful for you.

Michelle used to take as many shifts as she could at her waitressing job to provide for her son Jayden.

“Sometimes I need help feeding my son,” Michelle says, looking down at 8-year-old Jayden.

After months of unemployment, now is one of those times. Unfortunately, she hasn’t been able to work at all since she suffered a serious heart attack in January. She now has a stint in her heart and takes blood thinners daily.

This year has been tremendously hard on Michelle, but she says she’s fortunate to have some really good friends who are helping her through this difficult time, including friends like you, who give to help stock the shelves at Catholic Charities, a Greater Cleveland Food Bank partner in Mansfield, Ohio.

Michelle visits the food pantry, which is also a beneficiary of the Harvest for Hunger campaign to pick up healthy groceries, including fresh fruits and vegetables, to get her through the month. Jayden is an adventurous eater and loves peaches, tuna and even red cabbage. The food Michelle receives keeps Jayden growing strong.

He’s really into baseball and he loves to read he can’t wait for this summer and hopes to spend long days at the park. His mom is greatly relieved to know she’ll be able to fuel his energy with plenty of nutritious food.

“This means more to me than anyone could ever express.”

Michelle admits it’s not easy to ask for help, but she’s so grateful for friends like you, who are there when she needs a hand up.
