Euclid Remembers 9/11

A plaque honoring the victims aboard Flight 93 was re-dedicated at Hero Park on September 11th, 2014.

Thirteen years after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 the Euclid community gathered to honor the victims and heroes of that fateful day.  The City of Euclid held a ceremony at Hero Park on E. 228th Street, near Euclid Avenue to rededicate a plaque memorializing the heroes and victims aboard Flight 93.  Hero Park was dedicated in 2002 to honor those who died on that woeful September morning.

Mayor Bill Cervenik began the ceremony and paid tribute to the safety forces and citizens for their selfless bravery on that tragic day 13 years ago, and beyond.  The National Anthem was sung by retired Euclid Police Officer Ed Bonchak as the Euclid High School NJROTC presented the colors.

During the ceremony, attendees heard a spirited invocation from Pastor Kevin Hamilton of Living Waters Church of God.  Equally moving speeches were given by Officer Steve Hogrefe, NJROTC Sergeant Major John Rethage, and Assistant Fire Chief Will Anderson who recognized the selflessness and heroism on board Flight 93.  The ceremony ended with a moment of silence followed by "Taps" performed by John Padley of the Euclid City Schools.

On September 11, 2014, the people of the City of Euclid remembered the events of that very day 13 years prior.  It was a fitting tribute to those who lost their lives aboard Flight 93.
