Movie and Discussion on Brain Injury as Depicted in Movies

A free movie will be  shown at Euclid Library in the Shore room on September 9th at 6:30 pm. 50 FIRST DATES starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler is about a brain-injured young woman who can’t remember what happens on the previous day.  Because of her injury, she only lives in the moment, and every day when she wakes up, she has no memory of the past. Every day is a fresh start.  Adam Sandler’s character takes a liking to her but soon realizes that she has no memory of their first or their 50th date.   He uses her injury to his advantage to get her to like him more by using information gathered on each date.  Similar to the theme of the movie GROUNDHOG DAY, this comedy explores how one person exploits personal information known only from one party to his advantage. This movie has real issues that face a brain injured person and some made up by Hollywood. This movie is sponsored by Euclid Hospital’s Brain Injury Support Group that meets every 2nd Tuesday at 7pm. There will be a short discussion about brain injury and how it is depicted in this movie by people who have had brain injuries. Other information will be available about head trauma and the effects of brain injury.216-738-1806 for questions.
