Bands Rock the Stage at the Summer at Sims Concert Series

Lorine Chia is best known for her complex voice and emotionally charged lyrics.

The Summer at Sims Concert Series, presented by the City of Euclid, in association with the Beachland Ballroom and Tavern, has enjoyed tremendous success to date. Area residents came out in droves to enjoy the music, lakefront scenery, beer and food. With two dates remaining, the summer is just heating up.

Chardon Polka Band kicked off the series in May. The group is certainly not your average polka band. Chardon Polka breathed new life and energy to this traditional music while residents sang and tapped along whilst enjoying the good food and cold suds.

In June, Lorine Chia headlined the event. Born in Banso, Cameroon, Lorine Chia was destined to perform. Lorine is best known for her complex voice (generally compared to Amy Winehouse/Lauryn Hill/Jill Scott) and bass-centric jams whose subject matter deals with managing insecurities and spreading love in the community. Attendees sang along and danced with Ms. Chia on stage while enjoying the food and beer as the sun went down behind the crowd.

The remaining dates feature the following musical talent:

July 31st- The Moxies + TBD Opener-

The Moxies are a three piece outfit from Cleveland, Ohio consisting of Marco Ciofani (vocals, guitar), Kevin Werfield (drums) and Tyler Adams (bass). Their sound is an amalgam of rockabilly garage rock with a gritty, blues sensibility. Marco is no stranger to Euclid, having performed at Cebar’s during high school.

The Moxies draw from classic influences from Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Etta James, to modern artists such as their hero Jack White, Cold War Kids, and Cage the Elephant. Because the band’s sound is shaped by decades of rock, they appeal to audiences of all ages. Marco writes lyrics that range from aggressively energetic with songs like “Night Crawler” and “Dead Man Walking” to bluesy angst (“Conrete”, “Just A Boy”) to the romantically charged (“Main Street Drive-In”, “Rain Dance”), with enough youthful energy to make even the most jaded listener sing and dance along.

The Moxies are also scheduled to play at the House Blues, the Agora theatre and the Beachland Ballroom this summer.

August 28th- Luca Mundaca

Luca Mundaca is the latest in a long line of great Brazilian artists who have gained national and international acclaim. Luca Mundaca is a prime example of Brazilian jazz at its best. Her smooth, sultry voice truly takes you straight to the heart of Brazil.

Luca won the 2008 Independent Music Award in the World Fusion category. In addition to her own album, Luca’s work has been featured in the American movie “End of Watch” (2013), “The Visitor” (2008), ABC TV Show “Mistresses”(2013), the independent movie “Kissing Paris” (2008), and the Brazilian TV show “TiTiTi” a telenovela (2010).

The event would not be a success without the participation of local food vendors. Participants to date have included: The Nosh Box, MotorMouth Food Truck, Savannah’s Sweet and Salty Popcorn, 216 Bistro, Chill Pop Shop & Scott’s Fire and Ice.

A portion of the alcohol sales from the events go to support a local non-profit.
