Dancing Classrooms

5th graders from Shoreview lining up for the stomp.

Through the generous help of Euclid Hospital (Cleveland Clinic), the Euclid City School District was able to expand the Dancing Classrooms program to all four elementary schools. Dancing Classrooms is a ten week - 20 session social development program for 5th grade children that uses ballroom dance as its "tool". The mission of Dancing Classrooms is to build social awareness, confidence, and self-esteem in children through the practice of social dance. The program is integrated into the school day as a part of the required academic curriculum.

Dancing Classrooms is not about teaching ballroom dancing.  The dance is the tool for getting children to break down social barriers, learn about honor and respect, treat others carefully, improve self-confidence, communicate and cooperate, and accept others even if they are different. Euclid students were taught by Anna Anzio (Teaching Artist & Educational Liaison), Jose Garcia (Teaching Artist), and Christy Stefanak (Teaching Artist).

All four Euclid schools will be participating in the Colors of the Rainbow Team Match Semi Final Round on Saturday, May 10, 2014 from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. at Cuyahoga Community College (Metro Campus), Auditorium, 2900 Community College Avenue, Cleveland, 44115. This event is FREE, Open to the public and family friends (no tickets or reservations are required).
