Euclid Recreation Exercises Good Study Habits

On a weekly basis, you can find the Euclid Recreation Department’s youth tackle football teams together studying their school work. Under the leadership of Director Mac Stephens, the study tables are overseen by volunteer coaches and team parents. Kids have a GPA requirement in order to play on the fall tackle football teams and must submit progress reports to be certain that education is their first priority.

At the study tables kids will also hear motivational talks and participate in community service projects. Those who need additional help with school work can be referred to a tutoring service or given help by other program volunteers. Director Stephens stated, “Trying to get the kids to look beyond the sport and understand that they can achieve academically and socially at high levels is our goal.”

The Recreation Department started the successful model program several years ago and have had positive results. They plan to expand the study table program to include more sports teams this winter.
