Traveling with Diabetes

How do you stay healthy when you travel if you have diabetes? Flying? What snacks should you carry with you if get stuck on the tarmac for hours? What meal can you take aboard a plane that will help keep blood sugar stable yet satisfy all the requirements of the TSA? How should you handle your medications or insulin?

Driving? When you stop at a new restaurant and discover that everything on the menu is fried, what can you do?  How can you view a restaurant’s menu before you go there? If you are eating at a salad bar, what foods should you limit or avoid? How do you follow a healthy diet when you are a guest in someone’s home? What activities can you use to replace your regular exercise program?

Although vacations are supposed to be relaxing, they can also be stressful. Flights are late or cancelled. Cars run out of gas where there is no cell phone service. Your GPS sends you places you never wanted to go. How can you be prepared to deal with stress?

Come and join in a discussion of “Traveling with Diabetes” at the May 20th meeting of the Euclid Diabetes Support Group at the Euclid Public Library.
