Euclid Symphony Orchestra Hits a High Note

For over 50 years, the Euclid (Symphony) Orchestra has brought musical excellence to our City. The Orchestra has just completed another wonderful season and the popular Children’s concert was a fine example of the Orchestra’s diversity.

Every year the Euclid Symphony Orchestra performs a Children’s concert and invites all of the schools in Euclid to attend. This year the concert was held on Thursday, May 17 at the Shore Cultural Center, home of the Euclid Orchestra. The schools responding to the invite were Roosevelt, Memorial Park, Indian Hills, Our Lady of the Lake, St John of the Cross and Thomas Jefferson. The first concert was at 9:45am with a second concert at 11am. The Euclid Orchestra presented a story about Cinderella and her Viola. The story introduced various instruments and their sound to the students. The students were shown the differences between string instruments, such as the violin, viola, and cello.

The city of Euclid provided the bus transportation for the schools to the concert; but, students from Our Lady of the Lake chose to walk from East 200 Street to East 222 & Babbitt. What good exercise!

The planning for next season is underway and the Orchestra will find some changes in leadership.

Joseph Stepec, current Director of the Orchestra, is stepping down to pursue his masters studies at the Eastman School of Music, under Neil Varon. This past year has been a full one as Stepec has brought great energy and passion to his work.  “I’ve very much enjoyed my time with the Euclid Symphony. One year is really a short time, but I feel that, together, the orchestra and I accomplished many things. I wish the orchestra much success in its next fifty years, and our loyal audience and community, a continued sense of pride in the orchestra you have helped to rear up so beautifully. “

The 2012-13 Season begins on Sunday, October 21, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.  Mark your calendars now and make a date to experience this wonderful gem of an orchestra  - right here in our own community!
