Euclid girls welcome new volleyball, soccer coaches

Rachel Muniza, an assistant last season, will be taking over the head coaching duties for the Euclid Panther girls’ volleyball squad this fall. She replaces Tameka Drake.

The volleyball season gets underway with a 7 p.m. game at Warrensville Heights Aug. 30. The first home contest is slated for 7 p.m. Sept. 1 against Lorain High. On Sept. 3, the Panther netters will host a varsity tournament in which they will play several volleyball opponents.

Also coming up is a Sept. 7 home contest against neighborhood rival VASJ. In that one, the action begins at 7 p.m.

Euclid’s varsity girls soccer team will also welcome a new head coach this season, as Kyle Gisser moves into the post.

The soccer squad opens its 2011 campaign with a 1 p.m. home contest Aug. 27 against Open Door Christian. The girls will be on the road for the next three games—against Brush, Lakeside and Cuyahoga Heights. After that, they host home games against Cleveland Heights (Sept. 7 at 4:30 p.m.) and Wickliffe (Sept. 10 at 1 p.m.).

The boys’ varsity soccer team launches its season with five straight away games, including an Aug. 23 night game at Brush, another 7 p.m. contest Sept. 1 at Willoughby South, and a 4:30 p.m. game at Cleveland Heights Sept. 7.

The Euclid girls varsity tennis team kicks off its season Aug. 15 with an away contest at Wickliffe High at 4 p.m. The first home match is set for 11 a.m. Aug. 16 against Mayfield High. The Panthers will also host a tennis match with Cleveland Heights Aug. 24 at 4 p.m.
