Essential community - No man is an island

Community Talking Circle, The ConsciousNest Community

The ConsciousNest Community, located at 20150 Lakeshore Boulevard, is a place for gathering resources. The resources we gather are human. No, we're not an employment agency! What we are is a group of people who base our philosophy on the concept of community. We firmly believe that it is through community, when people bring their talents and skills to the central table, our lives as individuals are enriched.

In our Medicine Wheel Teachings circles, we often talk about our roles. The traditional roles, according to the Medicine Wheel Teachings, are fire keeper, visionary, peacekeeper, warrior, nomad, dreamer, initiator and healer. These titles sound perhaps foreign to most people; but in honesty, they are not foreign. We all perform at least five of these roles in our day-to-day lives.

The important thing to remember, however, is that it takes all of these roles to be an effective community. And the most important thing to remember is that no one person can perform all of these roles! Our modern society is such that we have trained ourselves to believe that we can do it all. The reality is that we, as individuals, cannot do it all.

Cities have councils, states and nations have other bodies, such as our Congress. These bodies function as the community through which decisions are made, programs are implemented, and so on. No one person, no director, mayor, city manager, governor or president, can fulfill what these communities of people fulfill. As a group -- as a community -- we accomplish our goals.

As a director of The ConsciousNest Community, I encourage you to visit us and experience the kinds of classes, workshops, and practitioners that help us enrich our community. As a resident of the Euclid area, I encourage you to search yourselves, and see what you might be able to bring to the collective table, and what you might be able to offer our community to help us all grow, thrive, and prosper.
